The Audio-Technica ATH-M50′s are nicely constructed too. They are durable enough that I can subject them to my normal abuse and they will survive. Although they’re mostly metal instead of cheap plastic, they are not horrendously heavy.  My Audio-Technica ATH-M50s adjusted adequately to fit my head and I find them quite comfortable, even for long periods. Don’t be afraid to stretch them to loosen them up.

The ear pads on the headsphones are made of vinyl so, when they heat up, your ears may sweat a bit. The advantage is that leather pads won’t be ruined by your sweat. The disadvantage is that your ears will need a breather now and then. The beauty of the Audio-Technica ATH-M50s is that they rotate around to give you the maximum level of comfort. And, even though they have no active noise-cancelling, the ear pad design of the Audio-Technica ATH-M50s will cancel out noise very effectively.

One important thing to know about the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones is that they come in two versions – one with a very long (12 foot) straight cable and the other with a coiled cable. Either way, the cable is only on one side so it won’t get easily tangled. I like the ability to move around a lot so the straight cable version of the of the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 works for me. If you’re on the move, listening in your car, or taking them on an airplane, the coiled cable may make it easier to manage.

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50 definitely won’t fold down to pocket size, but they do collapse enough to fit compactly into a storage pouch that’s included with your purchase. This little bonus makes it convenient for me to stow them away and keep them out of the hands of my curious (and destructive) kids and co-workers.

Aside from music, I find the ATH-M50s perfect for my movie nights, TV and video games. I can crank the volume to my heart’s content without causing my neighbors to call the police.
